  • Title
    Lorraine Cobcroft (Rainbowriter)
  • Description

Born in Armidale, in the New England region of New South Wales, Australia, Lorraine Cobcroft has lived in four countries and worked at dozens of different jobs in a vast range of industries. She finally found her niche in her forties, writing instructional material to accompany computer software.

After achieving success with courseware that sold around the globe, Lorraine turned to writing fiction and creative non-fiction. She has published several short stories and articles and a children’s picture book, Melanie’s Easter Gift. In 2010, she completed The Pencil Case, a minimally fictionalized biography of a stolen white child that shines a light on a shameful chapter of Australia’s social history.

After supporting her daughter through the traumatic birth and challenging first months of her grandson’s life, Lorraine wrote a short story that exposed the challenges faced by mothers who give birth to special children. That story was later expanded to create the novel, Mortgaged Goods, a story, based heavily on personal experience, that challenges popular social values and questions common perceptions about womanhood and mothering.

After many years in ''retirement'' from technical writing, Lorraine was delighted to be invited to write the software manuals for cloud-based Mclowd Self-Managed Superannuation Fund management software, and she is loving being part of a great Australian team producing a brilliant product.

Lorraine also operates Rainbowriter (www.rainbowriter.com) a web-based business offering editing, mentoring, publishing and support services to writers, critiques writing for authors developing stories or novels, and reviews for Readers' Favorite and Throw the Book as well as on Amazon and Goodreads.

Her business log line, “nudge the world a little’’, reflects her passion for producing works that question, challenge, motivate, and inspire, hopefully assisting positive social change.

Apart from writing, Lorraine loves to read, travel, garden, sew and spoil her five grandchildren. Australians might see her Isuzu Ute, with camper on the back and the Rainbowriter logo on the side, on the road or in campgrounds. If you see her truck parked, please come and introduce yourself. Otherwise, your emails, feedback and reviews are always most welcome.
